Chase Bank’s mobile deposit is one of the most used features in the Chase app. Here is what Chase publishes and how the federal hold rules apply.
Chase Mobile Deposit Limits
Chase doesn’t publish dollar limits by account type. Its support page says there are both daily and monthly maximum amounts that you may deposit to each eligible business or consumer account through a mobile device, and that you’ll see those limits when you start a deposit. Chase also says deposit limits may change at any time.
Chase doesn’t publish a limit schedule by account tier. See how Chase compares at mobile check deposit limits by bank.
How to Mobile Deposit a Check on Chase
- Open the Chase Mobile app
- Tap Deposit at the bottom of the screen
- Select your account
- Enter the check amount
- Take a photo of the front of the check — align it in the frame
- Take a photo of the back — sign it and follow the app’s endorsement instructions
- Review and submit
Chase Mobile Deposit Hold Times
Hold times follow Regulation CC. The rule sets the latest a bank may take, and a bank may release funds sooner.
| Check Type | First $275 | Full Availability |
|---|---|---|
| Check deposits in general | Next business day | Per below |
| Other checks (there are no longer any nonlocal checks) | Next business day | By the 2nd business day |
| Part of a day’s deposits over $6,725 | Not covered by the $275 floor | The Reg CC schedules don’t apply; the bank sets the timing |
| New account (first 30 calendar days) | The $275 rule doesn’t apply | For Treasury, cashier’s and certain other checks, the amount over $6,725 by the 9th business day; other checks aren’t on the standard schedule |
| Repeatedly overdrawn account | The $275 rule doesn’t apply | The schedules don’t apply for six months after the last overdraft; the bank sets the timing |
What If Chase Rejects Your Mobile Deposit?
Common reasons mobile deposits fail:
- Image too blurry or dark
- Check is torn or damaged
- Missing endorsement signature
- Endorsement wording the app asks for is missing
- Deposit exceeds your daily or monthly limit
- Check has already been deposited elsewhere (duplicate)
Alternatives When You Exceed the Chase Mobile Deposit Limit
| Option | Hours | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Chase branch teller | Business hours | Has its own limits and holds |
| Chase ATM with deposit | Hours vary by site | Has its own limits and holds |
| Call Chase (1-800-935-9935) | See Chase’s customer service page | Ask about your options |
An ordinary $20,000 personal check is treated the same way at a teller as by mobile: $275 is available the next business day, and the amount above $6,725 can be held longer. Check Chase branch hours before making the trip, since hours differ by branch.
See Chase ATM limits for withdrawal limits by card type.
