The routing number for your Truist account is shown in the Truist app or online banking (select the account, then View account details) and on the bottom left of your checks. Truist’s own mortgage-payoff page lists 061000104 as the bank ABA number for Truist Bank, Atlanta, GA, but Truist says ABA and ACH routing numbers may be the same or different, and it said at the 2019 merger that most clients would keep their existing numbers. Older BB&T and SunTrust accounts may therefore carry a different number, so use the one Truist shows for your account. If you can’t see it, call 1-844-487-8478.

See the full Truist banking guide for fees, ATM limits, and account overview.

What Is a Routing Number?

A routing number is a nine-digit code that identifies a US financial institution. It is used for transactions such as direct deposits, ACH bill payments and wire transfers, and it tells the payment network which financial institution is involved. If a wire order names one bank but carries another bank’s number, the banks involved may pay by the number alone, so a wrong routing number can send money to a different bank.

Routing numbers are used for:

  • Direct deposit (paychecks, government benefits, tax refunds)
  • ACH transfers (bill pay, bank-to-bank transfers)
  • Domestic wire transfers
  • International wire transfers (identified by a SWIFT/BIC code)

The first four of the nine digits are the Federal Reserve routing symbol (its first two digits identify the Federal Reserve district), and the ninth digit is a check digit. Entering even one wrong digit can delay or misdirect a payment.

What Truist Publishes About Its Routing Number

Truist’s help center explains where to find your number but doesn’t list one. The only number Truist states on a page we could read is on its mortgage-payoff page, which gives the bank details for payoff wires as Truist Bank, Atlanta, GA, with ABA number 061000104. That page doesn’t say the number applies to every checking or savings account, to ACH or direct deposit, or to wires into a personal account.

Use What to do
Direct deposit Use the number shown for your account in the Truist app, online banking, or on your checks
ACH transfers and bill pay Same: Truist says ACH and ABA numbers may differ
Domestic wire transfers Ask Truist for the wire instructions for your account

The number shown under View account details in the Truist app or online banking, and on the bottom left of your checks, is the one to use.

Accounts That Came From BB&T or SunTrust

Truist said when the merger completed that there would be no merger-related change to routing numbers on checking, savings and money market accounts for the vast majority of clients. That means an account that began at BB&T or SunTrust may still use its older number. Truist doesn’t publish a list of those older numbers, and this page doesn’t list any, because none could be confirmed from a Truist or Federal Reserve document.

Check the Truist mobile app under View account details to see the number assigned to your specific account, or look at a recent check. When in doubt, call Truist at 1-844-487-8478 before you give a routing number to an employer or a biller.

BB&T and SunTrust Merger Background

Truist was formed through the 2019 merger of BB&T and SunTrust Banks. Truist’s final core bank conversion took place in early 2022, when former SunTrust clients moved to the Truist systems and all branches became Truist. Truist does not publish which legacy routing numbers were retired, so confirm yours in the app.

Event Date
Merger announced February 2019
Merger completed December 2019
Core bank conversion milestone Third quarter of 2021
Final conversion, former SunTrust clients; all branches open as Truist First quarter of 2022 (branches rebranded Feb. 22, 2022)

International Wire Transfers

For international wire transfers, ask Truist for the wire instructions for your account, including the SWIFT/BIC code and routing number. Truist’s SWIFT notice for corporate clients names BRBTUS33 as the Truist primary BIC and says incoming international wires may still show SNTRUS3A (formerly SunTrust Bank). That notice is written for corporate SWIFT users, so confirm the code with Truist before you send or ask for a personal wire.

Information Details
SWIFT/BIC code BRBTUS33 is Truist’s primary BIC per its SWIFT notice; SNTRUS3A is a former SunTrust code. Confirm with Truist (844-4TRUIST)
Bank name Truist Bank
Bank address Use the address on the wire instructions Truist gives you
Routing number The wire number Truist gives you for your account

For wire transfer costs, see the Truist fee guide.

How to Find Your Truist Routing Number

1. Truist Mobile App

Open the Truist app, select your checking or savings account, then tap View account details. Your routing number is displayed alongside your account number.

2. Truist Online Banking

Log in at truist.com, choose Accounts from the top menu, pick the account, then select Account details.

3. On a Paper Check

On a Truist personal check, your routing number is the nine-digit number at the bottom left, followed by your account number. On a business check it is the second number, just before the account number. Check the label on a business check: Truist says the routing number is the second number there, not the first.

4. Customer Service

Call Truist at 1-844-487-8478 (Mon–Fri 8 AM–8 PM ET, Sat 8 AM–5 PM ET) to verify your routing number. Have your account information ready to verify your identity.
