Chime’s mobile check deposit limit isn’t something we could confirm on Chime’s own pages, so check the limit shown in the Chime app. Chime is a financial technology company, not a bank; its accounts are provided by partner banks. Hold times for check deposits follow Regulation CC.

New account (first 30 calendar days) The $275 rule doesn’t apply

Example: You deposit a $1,500 check on Monday before the cutoff. Under the rule, $275 is due Tuesday and the full $1,500 by Wednesday, the second business day. A bank may release funds sooner.

How to Make a Chime Mobile Deposit

  1. Endorse the check as the Chime app instructs
  2. Open the Chime app and find mobile check deposit
  3. Photograph front and back of the check in good lighting with all corners visible
  4. Enter the amount — double-check the written dollar amount on the check
  5. Submit before the cutoff shown in the app
  6. Keep the physical check until the deposit has posted, and for as long as the terms say, before you destroy it

If a check is larger than your limit, don’t split it into smaller deposits; ask Chime what to do or use another way to deposit it.

Cash Deposits: Green Dot Retail Network

Chime does not offer ATM cash deposits. For cash deposits, use the Green Dot retail network:

  • Available at Walmart, CVS, Dollar General, and thousands of other locations; free at Walgreens and Duane Reade
  • Fee: roughly $3.95–$4.95 per deposit at fee-charging retailers (charged by the retail partner, not Chime)
  • Available immediately in your Chime account

This is a significant limitation compared to traditional banks where cash deposits at branches or ATMs are free.
