USAA’s fee schedule sets an ATM cash withdrawal limit of $600 per card per 24 hours (up to 20 withdrawals), and USAA refunds up to $10 per monthly statement cycle in surcharge fees charged by non-USAA ATMs. USAA charges no ATM service fee of its own, but the owner of a machine outside its preferred network can charge a surcharge, and the rebate is capped.

If you are comparing account features, start with the USAA banking guide and the USAA fees page.

USAA ATM and Debit Card Limits

These are the limits in USAA Federal Savings Bank’s Account and Service Fee Schedule (effective October 2025). They are per card, per 24 hours.

Transaction Dollar limit Frequency limit
ATM cash withdrawal $600 20
Debit card cash advance $1,000 5
Debit card purchase $6,000 40
Cash deposits at ATMs that accept deposits to USAA accounts Limits apply; ask USAA N/A

USAA says it can change these limits and that the ATM owner or merchant may limit them further. The schedule lists one set of limits and does not give a separate, higher ATM limit by checking account tier.

What the Limit Means in Practice

The limit is the most cash one card can take from ATMs in 24 hours. It does not affect debit card purchases, Zelle transfers or checks. If you need $1,800 in cash for a move or a private sale, one card would need three days of withdrawals at the $600 limit, so ask USAA about a temporary increase or use another way to pay.

ATM Fee Rebate

USAA says that when you use a non-USAA ATM outside its preferred network you may incur surcharge, usage or other fees from the ATM operator or network. It refunds up to $10 per monthly statement cycle in those fees, and only if the ATM owner or network properly identifies the fee in the information it sends to USAA.

Example: four withdrawals at ATMs that each charge a $3.50 surcharge cost $14. With a $10 cap per statement cycle, USAA refunds $10 and you pay the other $4.

The same rebate section says nothing about higher caps for other accounts, so don’t count on a larger refund. See the USAA vs. Navy Federal comparison for another military-focused option.

How to Request a Temporary Limit Increase

USAA’s fee schedule says you may request a higher or lower ATM or debit card limit for a temporary or other period, and that USAA can refuse or reduce a request. Call USAA at 800-531-8722 or 210-531-USAA (8722), the numbers on the fee schedule. The limit may return to the standard amount when the period expires or when your card is replaced or reissued.

International ATM Use

  • Foreign transactions fee: 1% of the U.S. dollar amount on debit card purchases, non-ATM cash withdrawals and ATM cash withdrawals in a foreign currency, or in U.S. dollars at a foreign merchant, institution or ATM.
  • Operator fees: the foreign ATM’s owner may add its own fee. The $10 per statement cycle rebate is the only reimbursement the schedule describes.
