When Will My Deposit Be Available?
| Deposit Scenario | Availability |
|---|---|
| Check deposited on a business day before 7 p.m. ET | Ally begins processing it that evening |
| Check deposited after 7 p.m. ET | Ally begins processing it the next business day |
| Any check | Generally available no later than the 5th business day after your deposit |
| First $275 of a day’s check deposits | Next business day under Regulation CC |
| Account in its first 30 days or other Regulation CC exceptions | The bank sets the timing; Ally notifies you of any hold |
Example: You deposit a $5,000 check at 9 PM ET on Monday. That is after Ally’s 7 p.m. ET cutoff, so processing begins Tuesday, and Ally says the money will generally be available no later than the 5th business day after your deposit.
How Ally’s Mobile Deposit Limit Compares
| Bank | Daily Mobile Deposit Limit | Monthly Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Ally | $50,000 | $250,000 per 30 days |
| Chase | Shown in the app | Shown in the app |
| Bank of America | Not published | Shown in the app |
| Wells Fargo | Remaining daily limit shown in the app | Remaining 30-day limit shown in the app |
| Capital One | Shown in the app | Shown in the app |
Ally publishes its limits, while Chase, Bank of America, Wells Fargo and Capital One show yours in their apps and don’t publish a dollar figure. For small business owners, freelancers, landlords, or anyone who regularly deposits large checks, knowing the limit up front is a practical advantage.
Depositing Amounts Over $50,000
If you need to move more than $50,000 in a day:
- Ask Ally about your options: Call 1-877-247-2559.
- ACH transfer instead: If the payer can initiate an ACH, Ally accepts incoming ACH transfers with no mobile deposit involved. Ally doesn’t publish a fixed daily ACH limit — see Ally Bank transfer limits for what’s confirmable versus commonly cited.
- Wire transfer: Ask the payer to send a wire instead of a check; see wire transfer fees for what senders pay.
Cash Deposits: Limited at Ally
Ally doesn’t accept cash at ATMs or by mail, but you can add cash to an Ally Spending Account (checking) for free at a Walmart Money Center or customer service desk using a barcode in the Ally app — $20 to $999 per transaction, up to $1,000 a day and five transactions a month. Cash can’t go into Ally savings, money market or CD accounts. Ally also says it can’t accept money orders through eCheck Deposit. Options for customers who receive cash:
- Add cash at Walmart to an Ally Spending Account through the Ally app (within the limits above)
- Deposit cash at a second bank or credit union and ACH transfer to Ally (1–3 business days)
- Use a prepaid card with cash reload capability, then link it for ACH transfer (fees may apply)
Many Ally customers keep a basic account at a local credit union for cash handling and use Ally as their primary savings and interest-bearing checking account.
